Hi Jazz Friends,
Last Friday, 19th, we were entertained by a great band from the Midlands, The Millennium Eagle Jazz Band, led by reed man, Matt Palmer.
I must say, this band was absolutely marvellous with a wide repertoire of great jazz numbers, well played and professionally presented to a very appreciative audience.
All the musicians in the band, had excellent solo spots and some with great vocals, driven along by a solid rhythm section, fronted by a superb young drummer, Jack Cotterill (great solo Jack!!)
We loved the wonderful trombone duet with Pete Brown, valve trombone and Andy Holdorf, trombone.
In all the 20 odd years that Diane and I have been running Jazz at Badgers Mount and the Farnborough Jazz Club, I’ve never heard a band attempt to play South Rampart Street Parade, a unique experience, they performed it beautifully. It was a perfect moment for a few chaps to come in, who had just been to The Royal Ascot races. One of them was heard to say “What a fantastic band, its the only winner I have had all day”.
Someone asked us if we did food. I said we tried it once - chicken in a basket. A lady came over and complained that the chicken only had one leg. I said “what do you want to do, eat it, or dance with it?” But seriously folks, you’ll enjoy coming to Farnborough.
If you come early, there are plenty of quality places to eat in the village – Chinese, Indian, Fish & Chips and two excellent pubs - The Change of Horses and The Woodman.
So bin the internet, kick the tele’ into touch, get out of the old chair on a Friday night and enjoy an evening of good beer, quality jazz, dancing and fun at the Farnborough Jazz Club.
This Friday we have our local favourites, Vintage Jazz.
