Well, what can I say, nearly all the Vintage Jazz fans turned up last Friday, 17th April 2009 to show just how popular they are.  The dance floor was well used.  Even I had several dances – thanks chaps. (including my Bo Jangles’ legs – Keith!).

I know you certainly will be delighted by the return of Mike Barry’s Uptown Gang this coming Friday (24th).  As most of you know, another band not to be missed.  Entrance £7.

Di’s Blurb

Friday, April 17th, 2009

As you know, last Friday (10th April) was Good Friday and as promised, the Original Eastside Stompers provided us with a great party, with plenty of jazz for dancing plus lots of laughs. Their next date with us is 31st July, make a note not to miss it.

Vintage Jazz are back this Friday (17th April), the line up will be:

Clarinet:                    Harry Brampton

Trumpet:                   Alan Snook

Trombone:                John Shelley

Leader & Drums:    ‘Dipper’ Duddy

Double Bass:             Terry Knight

Banjo:                        Nick Singer

Question for you, how many scopes of coffee in a coffee pot, if you have seven people?

Vintage Jazz
Line up:

Clarinet: Harry Brampton
Trumpet: Alan Snook
Trombone: John Shelley
Leader & Drums: Brian ‘Dipper’ Duddy
Double Bass: Terry Knight
Banjo: Nick Singer
The Vintage Jazz has been with us (almost) from the start at Badgers Mount Hotel (originally the Eagle’s Nest, in the Black Eagle) and because I love to dance, they soon became our house-band appearing fortnightly.
In those days, the line-up was:
Leader & Drums: Tony Scriven. Tony moved north to run a hotel, then to Portugal. Dipper Duddy followed.
Clarinet: (late) Jumpin’ Jack Gilbert. Harry Brampton followed.
Trumpet: Dave Stradwick. Dave left to form his own band. Dave Wasket, took over, followed by John Shepherd, to name a couple, finally Alan Snook.
Trombone: John Shelley
Double Bass: (late) Ray Holland. Terry Knight followed.
Banjo: Colin Scudamore. Due to business commitments, Colin can only play occasionally.
They have great appeal particularly to dancers, playing fast, medium and slow tempos.
