So far, we have only received a couple of email addresses (maybe there are just a few of you who have this facility). May I reassure you that any information received would be strictly confidential, for my eyes/use only – sounds like a Bond movie – me, a Bond girl?? Now then, shut up, I can hear you laughing. Seriously, I really would appreciate a list of email addresses, should it be necessary to cancel a night at short notice (as with the snow – a first for us). I would also like to let you know about any future art exhibitions of Keith’s. Could you please phone 01689-603299 if you are having any trouble with emailing to:
keith@farnboroughjazz.co.uk or diane@farnboroughjazz.co.uk. Thanks.
Friday’s gig with Dave Stradwick’s Sussex Jazz Kings was, as expected, a great night of Jazz. They will be back on 14 August.
This Friday (27mar09) is Charlie Connor’s Vintage Reeds, who were here last June. Keith played with Charlie many years ago, with Mac White’s ‘Spirit of Bechet’.
Well, I read somewhere that we Brits drink our way through 135 million cups of tea a day, so I am off to do my bit for us Brits by having my 7th cup today.
See you Friday, I hope.

Friday, March 27th, 2009Charlie Connor’s Vintage Reeds
Wednesday, March 25th, 2009Vintage Reeds was formed in 1985. It was the brainchild of Charlie Connor & John Thurgood two reed players who had been chums since the early 1950’s. The idea was to highlight the style of Mez Mezzrow and Sidney Bechet. It worked well mainly in the commercial market more than than in the clubs (what no trumpet ?) In spite of the biases the band is still going today and enjoying the support of the more discerning audiences. Tonights line up, comprises Charlie Connor Ldr. (soprano sax.) Bill Finch(ex East Side Stompers (Drums) Don Smith (Mike Daniels Bass) Andy Maynard (Banjo) Ian Turner (ex Gambit Clarinet) Geof Cole(Barry White Trombone standing in for John Finch).as you will notice that we have added the Trombone to the front line.

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009Hi folks. Last Friday was full of “congratulations”. We had two birthday boys, Val and Harry’s 6 month anniversary and the ‘pièce de résistance’ was the lovely news that someone is getting married. Oh! I do love a romance All celebrated with great music from Barry Palser’s Savoy Jazz. Dancing quickly started with their happy tempo.
As most of you know, during the snowbound week, back in February, our car park was over a foot deep, necessitating the need to cancel the jazz for the very first time in over 18 years. I know you will appreciate, it was a huge time-consuming job phoning as many people as possible. I would, therefore, appreciate your email addresses (or a relative’s) please, just in case I ever need to cancel again for whatever reason. Send to:
keith@farnboroughjazz.co.uk or diane@farnboroughjazz.co.uk
This Friday (20th March 2009) is Dave Stradwick’s Sussex Jazz Kings, who were loads of fun on our ‘Burns’ night, dressed in tartan kit. Dave brought the house down with his rendition of ‘The Sheik of Arabie’ in Scottish. Don’t miss them on Friday, they’ll look lovely in royal salmon pink.
Keep on jazzin’.

Thursday, March 12th, 2009I think that everyone who came to the Farnborough Jazz Club last Friday (6th March 2009) would agree that it was a fabulous evening. To all of you who missed it, well - did you miss a night! We had a full house…… seriously; we had a much smaller crowd than usual, slightly burnt by the jazz weekend. Everyone danced and cheered the band, still creating a happy atmosphere (thanks).
Val and Harry were both back behind the bar and what a lot of you missed, (after much coaxing) was seeing them out on the dance floor. They do look good together (well, it is their six months wedding anniversary today, hmm).
Vintage Jazz have given us all so much pleasure throughout many years, please keep on supporting them and us. The more you give, by attending, applauding, calling out and dancing too, the more bands come alive and we all end the night on a ‘high’.
It was fabulous to see Colin Scudamore once again playing with the band, along with John Shelley having a sit-in for a couple of numbers.
Friday, 13th March, we have the appearance of the ever popular Barry Palser’s Savoy Jazzmen. See you then.

Vintage Jazz
Friday, March 6th, 2009The Vintage Jazz have been with us (almost) from the start at Badgers Mount Hotel (originally in the Eagles Nest of the Black Eagle) and because I love to dance, they soon became our house band.
In those days the line up was:
Tony Scriven was their leader and drummer. However, Tony moved north to run a hotel and then to Portugal. Dipper Duddy followed. They had (the Late) Jumpin’ Jack Gilbert on clarinet. Harry Brampton followed. Dave Stradwick was on trumpet. Dave left to form his own band and Dave Wasket took over, followed by John Shepherd, to name a couple. Finally Alan Snook took the slot. John Shelley was on trombone with (the Late) Ray Holland on double bass. Terry Knight followed. Colin Scudamore was on banjo, but due to business commitments, Colin can only play occasionally.
They have great appeal particularly to dancers, playing fast, medium, and slow tempos. Very few dancers can cope with the extreme fast tempo and very few bands play a middle tempo (as vintage Jazz do), leaving others to slow dances only.
Tonight’s line up (Friday 6th March 2009):
Clarinet: Harry Brampton
Trumpet: Don Keene
Trombone: John Howlett. (John Shelley might come for a blow)
Ldr & Drums: Dipper Duddy
Double Bass: Terry Knight, and
Banjo: Colin Scudamore

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009Here we are in the Twenty-First century, no longer the Flintstones. We received our first email from Ann and Sandy. Thanks for that.
I think that everyone who came to the Farnborough Jazz Club last Friday (27 Feb 09) would agree that it was a fabulous evening.
We had a full house, with the band, New Orleans Heat, playing a storm - a real “wow” factor. There was certainly plenty of dancing and the bar was very busy too! Our bar staff (down to only two this week), Kath and Barb, worked their socks (well stockings) off, bless’em - thanks to you both. Next appearance of New Orleans Heat will be on 22 May, so keep that night free.
Any comments from you are welcome - good ones to be added to the web site. The bad ones will be taken on board, but the webmaster has informed me that they will go into the internet ether! Well there wont be any, will there?
